Frequently Asked Questions

Q How much longer will my “long life” APU (LLAPU) last than using a standard APU?
A Generally, the LLAPU will last 6 times longer than the standard APU.

Q Can I use a standard APU bottle in place of an indicator bottle?
A Yes, although it is not recommended.

Q Can I use an indicator bottle in place of a APU?
A Yes, although it is not recommended as the lifespan will be extremely short.

Q Can we refill the indicator bottles and standard APU bottles ourselves?
A No

Q How many samples can we take using the same swab?
A Up to a maximum of 10 with the understanding that anytime the swab becomes torn, oily, wet, or excessively dirty it must be discarded immediately.

Q When it rains we are sampling wet bags, should we re-use the swabs?
A Re-use of a wet swab is not recommended. We recommend use of a new swab and to discard the wet one.

Q How often will the condensor tube need to be changed?
A Generally 3 to 4 weeks, dependent upon usage and the environment in which the unit is located.

Q How can I tell if the condensor tube needs to be replaced?
A The section of the tube facing the rear of the unit will turn a yellowish/brown color (please reference the below image).

Q Can we refill the condensor tube ourselves once it needs replacing?
A No

Q Will it harm the slide tray O-ring when I do a manual bakeout?
A No, it is getting cleaned as well while baking out.

Q We perform an auto-bakeout every day. How often should we do a manual bakeout?
A As often as possible but at least once per week.

Q How often should I change my slide tray O-ring?
A No real timeframe. If it is damaged in any way, replace it immediately. Also, if the system keeps alarming and is hard to clear, the O-ring may need to be replaced.
